Background Screening Services

From a single county search to a complete compliance program, we offer a full range of screening services. Select a service to learn more, or jump to our Illinois schools services.

Identity and Criminal History

Social Security Trace (Identity Verification)

We search more than 70 million Social Security Administration records to confirm whether a Social Security number is valid and the year and state it was issued. This also helps confirm the applicant's maiden and alias names, plus current and former addresses.

Nationwide Criminal Records Search

Searches criminal court records for convictions and arrests across a variety of databases and repositories, including state and national sex offender registries.

County Criminal Court Records

Searches criminal court records for all convictions to date and arrests within the past seven years. Our researchers physically search court records and match personal identifiers to report criminal history accurately, including felony, misdemeanor, ordinance violation and DUI records in every county where the applicant has lived.

Because most crimes are committed in the county where the offender lives or works, a county criminal search is essential to any background check and is recommended for all applicants. We have access to all 3,144 U.S. counties and county equivalents. Reports include the case number, offense date, filing date, charges, charge type and outcome. Because case details must be verified, these searches take the longest, typically 24–72 hours.

Federal District Criminal Courts

Provides arrest and conviction information for cases prosecuted in U.S. District Courts.

Sex Offender History

Searches both the Illinois State and National Sex Offender Registries.

Murderer and Violent Offender Against Youth

Reveals any history of murder or violent offenses against youth in the State of Illinois.

Government Registries

When children, patients or clients are in your care, it's important to know whether an applicant appears on a government registry. This search reveals certain sex offenses, terrorist activities, fraud and other government sanctions.

Driving, Credit and Healthcare

Driving Records (MVR)

Reveals an individual's driving record from the state Department of Motor Vehicles. Hiring a poor driver can increase your liability and your insurance premiums, which is why insurers increasingly require motor vehicle record checks before employees drive company vehicles. Information varies by state but typically includes driving history, license type, violations and restrictions.

FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

The FMCSA Clearinghouse is a secure online database that gives employers, the FMCSA, state driver licensing agencies and law enforcement real-time information about CDL drivers' drug and alcohol program violations, making our roads safer. Clearinghouse checks are required for all CDL holders at the time of hire, annually and any time an incident occurs.

Credit History

Hiring for any position with access to money or company assets increases your responsibility. A credit history report helps you understand a candidate's financial responsibility, including high and low balances, loans, bankruptcies, payment patterns and debt.

Medical Sanctions

Reveals any disciplinary actions against medical professionals that would prevent them from working under Medicare or Medicaid coverage.

Substance Abuse Testing

Timely, reliable pre-employment drug and alcohol testing results.

Verifications

Professional License Verification

Confirms the license number, issue date, expiration date and any disciplinary actions. Common state-regulated licenses include nurses, dentists, doctors and lawyers.

Employment Verification

Verifying past employment is often the most time-consuming part of hiring. We contact past employers to confirm the information provided is correct.

Education Verification

Confirms applicants have the credentials the job requires. We contact the institution where the highest degree was earned to confirm attendance dates and the degree awarded.

Programs and Compliance

Volunteer Screening

Screening your volunteers gives you the information you need to make wise decisions and helps protect your mission, your staff and the people you serve.

Beyond screening, we help keep your organization compliant with the laws that govern employment practices. We can handle pre-adverse action letters, adverse action letters, individualized assessments, required report copies and the Summary of Rights under the FCRA.
